Frequently Asked Questions

Please make sure to have a valid (current) form of identification: Drivers License or State ID, US Passport, or Armed Force Identification Card.

It depends on the type of notarization required:

  • Acknowledgment: Yes, you may sign the document beforehand. However, the signer must still appear in person before the notary to confirm that the signature is theirs and that they signed the document willingly.
  • Jurat (Oath or Affirmation): No, the document must be signed in the presence of the notary. The signer is also required to swear or affirm that the contents of the document are true.

It is your responsibility to determine which type of notarization is required. If you're unsure, please contact the agency or organization requesting the notarized document.

No, not all documents can be notarized. As an Arizona Notary Public, I am authorized to perform the following types of notarial acts:

  • Acknowledgments
  • Jurats (Oaths or Affirmations)
  • Administering Oaths or Affirmations

Each notarization must include the appropriate notarial certificate and meet Arizona’s legal requirements. If you're unsure whether your document qualifies, I recommend checking with the agency requesting the notarization.

Acknowledgement or Jurat Oath or Affirmation: $10 per notarial act (stamp).

*In addition to each stamp charge, an extra-mileage fee of sixty-two and one-half cents (62.5¢) per mile is added to the total.

No, but I can emboss in addition to the stamp! (According to the Arizona Notary Public Reference Manual Chap 2,  A notary public may use an embosser, sometimes referred to as a crimper, but may only do so in conjunction with the use of a rubber stamp notary seal.)

If your document requires a witness signature, yes, a witness must be present at the time of notarization. The witness must bring a valid, current form of identification (such as a driver’s license or passport).

Please note:

  • It is your responsibility to provide the witness unless otherwise arranged.
  • The notary cannot act as a witness.

If you're unsure whether your document requires a witness, check with the agency or entity requesting the notarization.

If you, the signer, do not have valid government-issued identification, you may still complete the notarization by bringing a credible witness who:

  • Personally knows you, the signer.
  • Presents a valid, current form of ID to the notary.
  • Is not involved in the transaction and has no financial interest in the document.

The credible witness must swear or affirm under oath that they personally know you.
If you do not have valid ID and cannot provide a credible witness, I will not be able to notarize your document.

As a notary public, I am authorized to explain the types of notarial acts—such as acknowledgments and jurats—and help you understand the differences between them.

However, I cannot:

  • Tell you which notarial act is appropriate for your document.
  • Provide legal advice or interpret the contents of your document.

It is the signer’s responsibility to determine which notarial act is needed. If you're unsure, please consult the agency requesting the document or seek guidance from a qualified attorney.
